Sharing Practical Tips for Web3 Users to Secure Their Wallets#

The blockchain environment is like a dark forest; as a yield farmer, you cannot focus solely on profits while neglecting wallet security, to avoid having your gains easily stolen by malicious actors. 1. Avoid Clicking Airdrop Links Hastily#
Many users rush to click airdrop links released by project parties or KOLs, ignoring the risk that their accounts may have been compromised. For example, projects like eigenlayer and puffer have encountered similar incidents, turning links into phishing traps. The recommended approach is to wait until you see at least 3-5 well-known KOLs simultaneously posting about airdrop information before checking with a secondary account (do not use your main wallet for initial testing).
2. Be Cautious with Projects Requiring Chrome Plugin Downloads#
Previous cases have shown that malicious Chrome plugins can steal user cookies and subsequently compromise platform account passwords. Unless absolutely necessary, do not install plugins casually.
3. Refuse to Participate in Projects Requiring Software Downloads#
In the past, several of my yield farming wallets were stolen due to devices being infected with trojan programs disguised as mining software. Since then, I have excluded all projects that require downloading desktop software, and I will not participate even if a virtual machine is suggested.
4. Do Not Store Large Assets in Yield Farming Wallets#
This point needs no elaboration: yield farming wallets should only hold acceptable amounts of yield farming funds, and do not transfer all assets from exchanges into them.
5. Do Not Update Fingerprint Browsers Unless Necessary#
Based on previous experiences with stolen ads, do not update fingerprint browsers or other desktop software unless necessary. New versions may introduce vulnerabilities rather than functional optimizations, increasing security risks.
6. Download Fingerprint Browser Plugins Only from the Chrome Store#
Similarly, regarding the ads issue, supply chain poisoning attacks stem from plugins obtained from unofficial channels. All Chrome plugins must be installed through the official Chrome store to avoid using third-party resources obtained via Baidu or Google searches.
7. Do Not Request Installation Packages from Others#
Some cryptocurrency users are accustomed to asking others for installation packages (such as VPNs, emulators, or assistant tools), but this behavior carries significant risks. Malicious installation packages may lead to account breaches; it is advisable to obtain them through official channels.
8. Carefully Check Wallet Authorization Operations#
There was an instance where a project’s tweet was stolen and a phishing link was posted, where the "claim" button would trigger asset transfer authorization. If clicked and confirmed, the wallet would be instantly emptied. Therefore, before executing any wallet confirmations or authorizations, be sure to carefully verify the link details.
9. Use New Wallets for Wallet Imports#
For projects involving wallet imports (such as new wallet platforms or new service offerings), always operate through a newly created wallet to reduce the risk of exposing your main wallet.
